That’s why homeowners and designers flock to unique and different moulding styles. The ultimate goal of a homeowner or interior designer is to create something special that represents your personality or the personality of their client.

That is why there are so many different types of moulding to choose from. All you have to do is take a look at our extensive product line, and you’ll find every pattern and style you could possibly want for your next project. If there’s one type of moulding that stands out from the rest, it’s decorative panel moulding.

What is Panel Moulding?

Panel moulding (or simply “panel mould”) is a type of moulding used on recessed or flat surfaces to create the appearance of panels. It’s an interesting and unique solution to the trendy paneled aesthetic because it transforms the ceiling, wall, or otherwise flat surface into something new and exciting.

You’ll often find panel moulding on walls and ceilings, as those are common areas that benefit from a subtle aesthetic boost. You may also find panel trim on doors, architectural paneling, fireplaces, staircases, cornice assemblies, mantels, and more.

It’s absolutely no secret that we are obsessed with intricately designed and chic rooms that feel cozy, inviting, and complete. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as a room that metaphorically takes your hand, leads to your seat, and begs you to relax. Panel moulding is the picture-perfect option for making a room look and feel finished.

How to Install Panel Moulding

If you’re an experienced or novice DIYer and would like to install panel moulding in your home, you’re in luck. The panel moulding installation process is much more straightforward than you might imagine. All you need to do is gather your supplies, decide what you want, adhere to the following steps, and you’re good to go!

1. Identify and Select the Material

Before installing or taking measurements, you have to know what kind of product you’re working with. We offer several different panel moulding patterns and styles, so take a look at our products and identify the material you’d like.

As a general rule, it’s essential to choose the moulding type that best fits your design aesthetic. For example, the moulding style you choose for your ceiling or wall might differ from the style you select for a cornice or architectural panel. So, do your research and choose the moulding product that will most effectively elevate your home’s design.

2. Take Your Measurements

Once you know what kind of panel moulding you’re going to use, it’s time to take your measurements. Remember to be precise with your measurements because this will determine how much product you buy. When you’re ordering your supplies, don’t forget to pick up a little extra, just in case.

3. Find the Studs

Now that you’ve taken your measurements, it’s time to find your studs. Use a stud finder to locate and indicate them so you know exactly where to attach the moulding to your surface. Your studs will serve as an anchor and hold the moulding securely in place.

4. Level and Install

Once that’s finished, it’s time to install your moulding! Remember to use a level to keep everything straight and aligned. One of the worst things that can happen is finishing your installation and subsequently realizing your paneling is slightly crooked.

5. Patch and Caulk

After the panel moulding is installed, it’s time to patch and caulk any nail holes or gaps left behind. Your goal is to ensure that everything is smooth and seamless. If you leave those places open, they can collect dust, which is an eyesore that could potentially wreak havoc on your moulding installation.

6. Prime and Paint

Once everything is caulked and patched, it’s time to prime and paint your moulding. Since you’ll likely want the surface and panel moulding to be the same color, this can be done post-installation. If you’d like them to be different colors, it’ll be less challenging if you paint and prime them separately before starting.
